Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Airport is located almost in the center of the city, so you can be in your hotel just within minutes of your arrival.

Lisbon Airport is located 7km north of the capital Lisbon. This strategic location makes it easy for you to get to your hotel without much of a hustle. The airport handled over 13 million passengers in 2009. The strategic location of Lisbon Airport gives it an edge over other airports not only in Portugal but also in Europe at large. The airport is well equipped to ensure the stay of passengers within the airport is comfortable. Restaurants, duty free shops, left luggage and baby care facilities, and meeting rooms are just but a few of the facilities available at the airport. Lisbon Airport also contains facilities for use by disabled people.

Getting from the Lisbon Airport to the city centre one has the option of using taxi or bus service. Due to the short distance it is not much of a hustle whatever your preference. Lisbon Airport has encountered several recent changes due to the increase in passenger traffic. In order to handle the ever increasing passenger traffic a second terminal was completed in 2007. New boarding gates, air bridges and parking positions were put in place to aid in achieving this end.

Lisbon Airport Facilities

Lisbon Airport, having served over 13 million passengers in 2009, is by no standards a small airport. It has the facilities necessary to ensure the passengers on transit are not inconvenienced in any way. The airport contains several restaurants where one can grab a meal as they wait for their flight or to be picked up. These offer a wide range of meals catering for a wide range of people’s tastes. There are also snack bars where one can grab a quick snack. Cafes and fast food outlets can also be found in the departures area.

In both the departures and arrivals areas one can get bureau de change services in case one needs to change currency while going into or out of the country. Lisbon Airport also contains banking facilities with several ATMs also present within the facility. When it comes to shopping facilities Lisbon Airport has several shops where you can purchase that item that you forgot while making the trip. There are also duty free shops where you can pick up a gift item or two. The shopping facilities within the airport offer many commodities ranging from jewellery to books. Luggage storage facilities are available on request within the airport. On Level 2 of Car Park P2 one can find left luggage facilities.

Transport airport - Lisbon centre

There are several cheap professional transport services available, with prices comparable to a taxi. Please click here to see all these services, with reviews and prices. Of course, taxis are also a fast way to reach the city center. They are lined up outside the terminals, and even with luggage, it should cost you between 10 and 15 Euros. Be sure to ask for a receipt. Several buses also stop right outside the arrivals terminal, and if you don't have large luggage, you can take buses 44, 745, or 83 that run past the major avenues uptown and end up in the old city center.

Those with luggage should take either the AeroBus or AeroShuttle bus services, which run between the airport and the city center. A ticket may be purchased directly from the driver and currently stands at €3.50. The buses run every 20 or 30 minutes and stop at important points in the city such as Entrecampos, Campo Pequeno, Avenida da Republica, Saldanha, Picoas, Fontes Pereira Melo, Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Libertade, Restauradores, Rossio, Praça do Comercio and Cais do Sodré. On board, there are screens showing each stop as the bus approaches the area, and a list of nearby hotels, which is extremely convenient if you're not entirely sure which stop you need to get off at for your hotel.

Carristur runs two complementary bus transport services, connecting Lisbon's airport with the city centre and the main transport hubs such as the Oriente train station, Comercio Square or Cais de Sodré. These services, the AeroBus Line 1 and the Aerobus Lines 2 & 3 (previously called AeroShuttle), go past more than 90 Lisbon hotels, thus providing tourists arriving at the airport with easy access to their accommodation. Please see the table further down this page to see which service is most suitable for your hotel.

One of the advantages of these services is the possibility of purchasing a single ticket valid for 24 hours, which allows access to Aerobus, Aeroshuttle and the Lisbon public bus network.
