Krakow Restaurants

Krakow’s Old Town district seems virtually stuffed with all kinds of diners, so fine restaurants and other eateries that offer quality food throughout the city.

Here, within easy walking distance, are restaurants to suit all budgets. The cheapest Krakow restaurants prices can be found can be found in the Milk bars (Bar Mleczny). These establishments were originally financed by the state providing local food staples for the population. But have managed to survive the transition of government ideologies purely because they do two things well. Produce decent food at low price. Infact if you want a truly Polish experience, then a milk bar meal is a must. And although the décor is reminiscent of a hospital the service is efficient, the food is tasty and you can test out your Polish!

Krakow Restaurant Traditions

Krakow gastronomy has a long and glorious tradition that dates back to the famously lavish medieval and Renaissance feasts and the Baroque extravaganzas of Polish gentry gourmets. And the city’s famed restaurants of the past two centuries are fondly remembered. Yet the recent decade has brought about a genuine restaurant explosion owing to the hectic efforts of aspiring restaurateurs, native as well as immigrants.

Cherubino

The restaurant Cherubino (Italian and Polish cuisine) is situated in a charming Alley of Doubting Thomas only few steps from Market Square. It tempts not only with excellent Italian cuisine, but with the Polish one, for which native Poles long as well. Restaurant welcomes eminent guests, without whom Cracow would surely lose its charm. Italians say: “it’s better than at home” and the native people from Cracow frequently return here with pleasure. This is the place where You can spend Your time in a genuine Cracow atmosphere: among carriages, highlander sleighs, fishermen boats from Hel peninsula, by a fireplace burning beech wood. It is a restaurant with Italian temperament. We change our menu several times a year, bearing in mind seasonal delicacies and Polish tradition.

Del Papa

Everyone who likes Italian cuisine will find here traditional dishes from there such as vitello tonnato, beef and fish carpaccio, minestrone soup or tiramisu, tasty and crunchy - thin based - pizza and big choice of pasta. There are also less traditional - meat and fish - dishes and delicious seafood. Mussels, served here every Thursday, are famous for being the best mussels in Cracow.

Scandale Royal

A few meters from the Market Square, Scandale Royal's décor is enticingly inviting with its different shades of purple and grey, and elements of silver and gold. While to the outside eye it may seem that this is primarily a cocktail bar with its lavish stock of alcohols from all over the world, the emphasis on its restaurant aspect is revealed with the quality and extent of the menu. Chef Fabrice Boulahouache hails from France and is at the helm of the kitchen here creating a fusion menu which blends the best of Polish, French and Asian.

A delightful menu offers appetizers such as the tomato tartar with basil; shrimp tempura in sweet-and-sour sauce;  and main dishes such as the Japanese-style filet of salmon served with marinated ginger and black Rice. With great cocktails, breakfast, and an excellent lunch menu, Scandale Royal is indeed a welcome addition to the bubbling center of Krakow.

Corleone

Located on Poselska Street, a quiet strada close to the Main Square, Corleone offers great Italian fare inspired from the Sicilian town whence it derives its name name. In this elegant yet cozily appointed locale, a wealth of flavorful food is for the picking under the watchful gaze of Italy's movie stars whose photographs adorn the walls. Appetizers such as the carpaccio, or the foie gras are great precursors to homemade pasta prepared in myriad ways. Follow up with the exquisite beef sirloin or roast duck with figs, or the outstanding selection of seafood touched by a spicy Sicilian accent - the focus on quality reflected by the fact the place receives a shipment of fresh fish and seafood twice a week.

The wine selection mostly from Sicily and Tuscany blends perfectly with the cuisine, and finally award-winning desserts such as the ice cream spaghetti are your light at the end off this remarkable culinary tunnel!
