Amsterdam Fashion Week
Showcasing the finest in European style, the Amsterdam International Fashion Week is quickly making a name for itself on the international scene.
Fashion Week DOWNTOWN consists of numerous public catwalk shows, parties, shop launches, lectures and expositions, all organized in collaboration with local museums, galleries, clubs and shops.
End of January
Some of the "haute" DOWNTOWN events include the exhibition "Two Ways of Fashion" an exhibition combining fashion photography and designer pieces, two of the creative disciplines that express fashion; a chocolate inspired fashion challenge invites you to challenge your senses in a fashionable way by tasting designer Marc Echo’s “adult only” chocolate chip cookies and a chance to win a bag from Dutch designer Ignoor; Amsterdam Historical Museum’s look at men and fashion in Amsterdam throughout the centuries.
Biannual fashion bonanza
Twice yearly, in late January and again in July, the AIFW takes the city by storm. Running since 2004, the AIFW corresponds with summer and winter trends. Leading Dutch brands, independent boutique labels and local designers impress the international fashion world, while international brands showcase their wares to local buyers.
Public programme & parties
Beyond the glitterati and fashionistas of the private runway shows is the public programme, taking Dutch fashion to where it belongs, the streets. Almost as important as the runway shows are the parties, where those in the industry have the opportunity to network and talk shop in a relaxed environment. Although some of these parties are exclusively invite-only, others are open to the public - one such event being the ever-popular anti-fashion party.
